The Arizona Architecture Foundation offers a range of programs and opportunities that connect people around architecture, design, and the architectural heritage of Arizona.

The wide range of community programs includes visiting lectures, student & emerging professional presentations, workshops, and special events that focus on architecture and the built environment.

Curt Schafer Lecture

Since 1986, the Foundation has sponsored the annual Curt Shafer Lecture which brings a noted architect or designer to Arizona to speak about their work and their design ideas. The annual lecture is one of the most prominent events of the year, bringing together students, professionals, and community members to engage in discussions about architecture and the built environment.

AZ Archives Event

Since the inception of the Arizona Archives Committee 10 years ago, annual events have been held to honor the work of Arizona Architects who have made a lasting contribution to Arizona Architecture and whose drawings have been pursued for archival purposes preserving their legacies.

Golf Tournament

Since 1983 the Curt Shafer & Rich Goewey Memorial Golf Tournament has been the leading fundraising event for the Foundation. This tradition continues after 40 years and the Foundation values its industry partners who support the event.

Sean Murphy & Robert Saemisch Event

Each year, the Foundation and The Design School host the annual Murphy & Saemisch Travel Prize Event which highlights and celebrates the accomplishments of the travel program. The annual community event features presentations from the past year’s Travel Prize recipients where they speak about their independent travel and research program.

Programs We Support

In the Foundation’s 40 year history, numerous programs have been supported in three distinct categories. Grant Category 1 Promotes Excellence in Architecture and the Built Environment. Grant Category 2 provides funding for recent graduates to take the Architecture Registration Exams. Grant Category 3 supports Architectural Archives and Preserving the Legacy of Arizona Architecture.
